Here is a quick trick for menus I have just found out (trust me to be doing it the super hard way for all this time). Basically you don’t need top and bottom padding when aligning text all you need to do is set the line height. For example If you are struggling to get your links in your menu centered vertically because you cannot calculate the proper top and bottom padding it is actually far easier to instead have no top and bottom padding and just set the line height to the height of your menu bar. For instance if you have a top menu bar that is 40px just set your line height to your menu items to 40px too and this no matter how big or small your font is should line up perfectly in the middle and then the only padding that you will need will be your left and right paddings!
